PRYOR, OK - The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Elders Council celebrated their third birthday Saturday, July 10 at the courthouse in Pryor. According to spokesperson Marv Selken, it had been 150 since an elders council existed in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. A CNO elders council had not existed for 150 years when the current council was formed in 1996, according to spokesman Marv Selken. CNO citizens 55 and older are eligible to join the council.Selken said, the Rainbow House, located in Locust Grove, is one of the projects the council. The Rainbow House provides clothing and household goods to Cherokee and non-Cherokee families in need of assistance. The project is staffed by volunteers. More volunteers are needed.
