Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Housing Authority members, to include the former executive director, were dismissed from a lawsuit alleging illegal wiretapping at the request of the plaintiffs. An undisclosed settlement was reached with those dropped from the suit, according to court papers.Joel Thompson, former executive director of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Housing Authority, convicted in Muskogee Federal Court of misusing tribal funds along with other charges,was one of the people dropped from the lawsuit. Thompson is still waiting to be sentenced for the conviction.
Robin Mayes of Tahlequah and Marvin Summerfield of Miami, Oklahoma filed the lawsuit in May 1998 in the Tulsa U.S. District Court, seeking $1.1 million in damages.
