A publication entitled "A History of the Judicial Appeals Tribunal (Supreme Court) of the Cherokee Nation 1990-1886 has just been released.As the name suggests, this work covers the history of the Judicial Appeals Tribunal (Supreme Court) of the Cherokee Nation from 1990 to 1996. The publication, compiled by Gregory A. Upton, attorney-at-law, contains a legal analysis of the decisions entered by the Tribunal during this dynamic time period, various newspaper articles, biographical information on Chief Justice Birdwell, Justice Keen, and Justice Viles, as well as personal letters and current court rules of the Tribunal and District Court of the Cherokee Nation.
Historians or anyone having a casual interest in Cherokee history, attorneys who practice in Indian Nation courts, legal scholars, and Cherokee citizens should seriously consider acquiring this limited edition publication.
