"Announces Five New Board Members for 2000"

Tahlequah, OK - Charles "Chief" Boyd, president of the Cherokee National Historical Society in Tahlequah, recently announced the Board of Trustees for 2000. "Our Board members are a very dedicated group of individuals, dedicated to preserving Cherokee history and culture and returning the Cherokee Heritage Center to world prominence. We have a great team to plan our success in the new millennium. It is the right thing to do for future generations."

The five new board members are: Greg Combs, Tahlequah; Gina Olaya-Quinton, Stilwell; David Scott, Stilwell; Barbara Starr-Scott, Jay; and Wes Studi, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Other members of the board of trustees include: K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr., Houston, Texas; Kenneth Adams, Bartlesville; Jack Baker, treasurer, Oklahoma City; Robin (Flint) Ballenger, Tulsa ; Betty Starr Barker, Stilwell; Charles "Chief" Boyd, president, Tulsa; Gary Chapman, Hulbert; Bob Cunningham, Tahlequah; Julian Fite, Tahlequah; C.W. "Bill" Flint, Jr., emeritus, Tulsa; Sandy Garrett, Oklahoma City; Lou Kerr, Tulsa; John Ketcher, ex-officio, Tahlequah; Mary Ellen (Milam) Meredith, vice president, Oklahoma City; Wayne Mitchell, Tahlequah; Robert Rucker, emeritus, Norman; Cherokee Nation Deputy Chief Hastings Shade, ex-officio, Tahlequah; Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, ex-officio, Tahlequah; Gelvin Stevenson, The Bronx; Ross Swimmer, Tulsa; and Larry Wilson, executive secretary, Oklahoma City.

"New board members will bring a fresh look and new vision to the board of trustees," said Mary Ellen Meredith, interim director. "Wes Studi will serve on the theatre committee and help us plan events for the amphitheater. Working together, we can increase tourism to the Heritage Center and northeastern Oklahoma and continue our goal of preserving Cherokee history and culture."
