TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin taking applications on December 13, 1999 for heating assistance during the winter months for eligible low-income tribal members.The CNO will assist approximately 1,500 low-income households this year. Each applicant's income cannot exceed the national poverty level income guidelines. Applicants must live in the tribe's 14-county jurisdictional are and have a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) card.
LIHEAP will open the application process in January for crisis or emergency energy assistance. LIHEAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is administered by the Cherokee Nation Family Assistance Department. For more information call 1-800-256-0671 (Ext. 2327).
