The Tellico Plains Area Chamber of Commerce Presents:
The Native American Gathering 1999

The Tellico Plains Area Chamber of Commerce is proud and excited to be hosting this year’s Native American Gathering. It’s a "Welcoming Home" to all of our Native American brothers and sisters to come visit Tellico Plains, once known as Telliquah, the early home of a mighty Cherokee Nation.

Come celebrate with us the beauty and rich heritage that these mountains hold. Share in its stories, listen to its songs, enjoy demonstrations and shop among the many arts and crafts that will be on display. Thursday and Friday visitors are welcome to spend the day shopping and browsing among the booths of local artists and Native American craftsmen. Visit our town, explore our beautiful mountains, but be sure to come back on Saturday when all of the activities begin.

Thursday and Friday, April 29 & 30, 1999, 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1 9:00 a.m. 'til 9:00 p.m. Located in the Historical District of Town Square on the grounds beside the Co-op and Moree Supermarket.

Freeman Owle - Saturday May 1, 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. Learn the history of the Cherokee people through the artful storytelling of Freeman Owle. A member of the Easter Band of Cherokee, Freeman Owle shares the rich history and culture of his people in a style that is all his own. "It’s not just a story, it’s an Experience."

WOLF - Saturday May 1, 7:30 p.m. Wolf is a Native American Singer/Entertainer from the Ditidaht Nation on Vancouver Island in Canada. His music combines Traditional Native American songs and values with contemporary music of today so that people of all ages and cultures can listen and enjoy. He has found a unique way to combine this music together to bring the younger generations to the Circle where they can then learn from others and become a part of that Circle. Wolf now resides in Nashville, TN. and is touring the United States promoting his new release "Special Edition" that contains the popular song "Indian Reservation", more commonly known as "Cherokee People" or "The Cherokee Lament".

David G - Saturday May 1, 6:00 p.m. Music from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and the most popular Country music of today, David G is sure to please every generation of listener. Come enjoy an evening of beautiful music and the smooth sounds of one of our favorite local talents, David G.
