Tulsa, OK - Tulsa Cherokee Community Organization is sponsoring a Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) candidates forum to be held Sunday, April 25, 1999, at the Aaronson Auditorium at the Tulsa Central Library. The forum is to include candidates for Chief, Deputy Chief and Council candidates from District 8. The forum is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.

Candidates for Chief that have confirmed they will attend, are as follows:

Dwight Birdwell of Bell
Garland Eagle of Stilwell
Haskell Murphy of Tahlequah
Pat Ragsdale of Muskogee
Chad Smith of Tahlequah
Virginia Stroud of Tahlequah
Maxie Thompson of Rose

Candidates for Deputy Chief that have confirmed they will attend, are as follows:

Bill John Baker, of Tahlequah
Paula Holder of Warner
Hastings Shade of Hulbert
Gary Stopp of Tahlequah

The council candidates expected to attend are from District 8, which covers Tulsa and Washington counties.

According to Judy Turner, secretary-treasurer of the organization sponsoring the forum, Chief Joe Byrd sent notification that he will not attend, due to a scheduling conflict and Meredeth Frailey of Tahlequah, a candidate for chief, will be out of state so unable to attend.
