Indian, Native A-yv-wi-ya Formal Yv-wi-ya Conversational Things to remember: (Yv-wi) is the word for person whether it be white black or yellow, and the (ya) added to the end, gives it more emphasis. When (ya) is attached to the end of certain nouns it implies that the object or subject are more special. This is where the term "Principal People" comes from. This distinction not only applies to Cherokees, but to other Indian tribes. You must understand that before you could be a Cherokee according to Cherokee custom you had to belong to a clan first and foremost. So rather than identifying yourself as an Indian you have a deeper connection with your clan. Indians, Natives A-ni-yv-wi-ya I have given you the plural form of Indians and you will notice that the plural prefix (a-ni) has been added. (A-ni) is used when you are talking about a group of people and we will talk about this more in future lessons. ______________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, write to cwylanguage-unsubscribe@listbot.com .
