Here are some variations of the phrase "Help me!" S-gi-s-de-la Formal or Syllabary pronunciation S-gi-s-de-l Conversational As you begin to learn more Cherokee, you are going to find that the Cherokee language is a very specific language. You can not use (S-gi-s-de-la) when you are talking to more than one person. If you say (S-gi-s-de-la) you are addressing a specific person to help you. (S-gi-s-de-la) is also a command, not a question and for that reason, you will hear this phrase spoken mostly in the formal pronunciation. The harder you speak or the tonality of your voice, effects the meaning. For example: If you were talking to a buddy or a small child you might say in calm voice (S-gi-s-de-la). If you were talking to your lazy brother-in-law you might say (S-gi-s-de-la !) with a severe tone of voice. The reason that I am including this word is because it will be essential when you actually get a chance to speak with a fluent speaker of the Cherokee language. In order to learn to speak Cherokee, you are going to have to quit relying on English. If you are talking to a speaker and he says something that you don't understand, simply say, "S-gi-s-de-la." Then you will not have to revert back to English. Over time, you will obtain more language skills that will help learn Cherokee without reverting into English. Practice integrating this word into your daily vocabulary. FOR ALL SUBSCRIBERS TO THE CHEROKEE LESSONS I want to say (sgi) for your patience. If you are trying to get back lessons please go through the steps below to get all back lessons. I would also recommend that everyone get a Cherokee syllabary chart. This chart will help you learn the phonetic system that I am using, but you will also get a chance to practice writing in Cherokee. *For new members-If you have just started receiving lessons you can go to http://www.listbot.com, click List Subscribers and enter your member information, click (View List Archives), click (Cherokee Language Lessons) and choose the back lesson that you need. .
