Today we are not going to talk about numbers, but don’t forget to practice because we will use them in future lessons. What I would like to teach you today are a few words that I use or learn through out my day. Try to learn these words and incorporate them into your daily vocabulary. I will try to give you a weather report for the town of Cherokee and hopefully it will help you learn the weather words. It's clouding up. Ga-lo-gi-la-di-a Formal Ga-lo-gi-l-di Conversational Today I am going to teach the word for "how many?" As you probably know by now, the Cherokee language is not an easy language and it very precise. When you ask the question "How many?" you will have to specify whether you are talking about an in-animate object (non-living) or an animate (living) object. Both words start with the basic root word of (hv-ga), for you speakers of the Oklahoma dialect (ha-la) is what you will hear. If you want to ask "how many" talking about (non-living objects) you would add (i-ga). Here are some examples. How many forks? Hv-ga-i-ga yv-gi Formal Hv-ga-i-ga yv-g Conversational How many do you want? Hv-ga-i-ga tsa-du-li-ha Formal Hv-ga-i-ga tsa-du-li Conversational If you and the speaker both know what you are talking about you can simply say (hv-ga-i-ga) "How many? Maybe you are talking about pencils. If you want to ask "how many" talking about (living objects) you would add (i-ya-ni). Here are some examples. How many people? Hv-ga-i-ya-ni yv-wi Formal Hv-ga-i-ya-ni yv-w Conversational How many children? Hv-ga-i-ya-ni di-ni-yo-hli Formal Hv-ga-i-ya-ni di-ni-yo-hl Conversational If you and the speaker both know what you are talking about you can simply say (hv-ga-i-ya-ni) "How many? Maybe you are talking about buying chickens. As we learn our numbers we will start incorporating them into everyday conversation. *For new members-If you have just started receiving lessons you can go to http://www.listbot.com, click List Subscribers and enter your member information, click (View List Archives), click (Cherokee Language Lessons) and choose the back lesson that you need. .
