Let me give you an example, In the English language if you were to "say hand me" or "Give me" you would simply state the item that you are wanting. As in, "Give me an apple." When using the Cherokee language, the verb that you use will be dependent on the item that you are wanting. The verb usage will depend on the 5 different categories of nouns that I described in our previous lesson which are; round, rigid, flexible, liquid and animate. I know this may seem complicated, but we are going to take our time as we go through it. Each day we will move on to a new category and learn the appropriate verb until we gone through all five categories. The first verb that we are going to address is s-gv-si which translates to "give me or hand me" in the round form. The round form, includes all objects that are round in shape and also includes objects with no definite shape. Here are some sample sentences using (s-gv-si). Hand me an apple. Sv-ga-ta s-gv-si Formal or Syllabary pronunciation Sv-g-t s-gv-si Conversational pronunciation apple hand me Give me a rock.
